Our ‘O Me-nok students celebrate the Kamome Festival's 12th anniversary, forging cross-cultural connections. Click to find out more!
Our ‘O Me-nok students had an amazing time at this year’s Kamome Festival, which commemorates the 12-year anniversary of the remarkable journey of “Kamome,” a small boat that washed ashore in Crescent City after a tsunami in Rikuzentakata, Japan. Although the tsunami was a tragic event, it led to a beautiful sister city relationship between Rikuzentakata and Crescent City, fostering a bond that continues to grow each year. The kiddos from our center had a blast exploring various cultural traditions—like the tea ceremony, bon dance, origami art, and calligraphy—and learning about the rich history behind the festival. A heartfelt thank-you goes to Ms. Helton for capturing the children’s smiles and excitement, which truly highlight their sense of wonder and curiosity throughout the celebration.
