We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who helped make our recent event such a memorable and meaningful day. It was truly a community effort!
Special appreciation goes to Lance Bates and Victoria Carlson for their leadership, and to the event committee—Erika Meyer, Jessica Cedillo, and Isaiah Wright—for their dedicated support.
The day began with a beautiful Brush Dance demonstration, and we were inspired by the talent and pride shown by our students. Dave Severns shared his traditional canoes and, along with Thayallen, led engaging tours of ‘O Me-nok Village. Bessie Shorties and Jollene Jones gave a wonderful demonstration on basket making, while Will Carlson and Lance Bates shared cultural activities including drum making, bear grass braiding, and traditional card games.
We also appreciate Ryan Matilton for his informative presentation on Yurok wildlife. The delicious food was a highlight of the day—thank you to Isaiah Wright for preparing tacos and to Dave Gensaw for bringing beautifully smoked salmon to the table.
A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped serve food and stayed to assist with cleanup. Your help was incredibly valuable and appreciated by all.
We were excited to welcome Mr. Fabricius, his staff, and students from Sunset School, who joined in the celebration. We also thank UIHS for sharing information about community health services, and Title VI for providing helpful resources for our students.
Finally, thank you to school board member Mike Greer and Assistant Superintendent Tom Kissinger for taking the time to join us and support our event.
We are grateful for everyone who helped make this day so special. Your support and participation truly make a difference in our school community!
